The Great Seal of the United States is a coat of arms used for the certification of documents published by the Federal Government of the United States of America.
On the right side of the coat of arms is represented a white-headed eagle (also known as a bald eagle), with open wings, carrying a shield similar in design to the US flag, with a blue head (but without stars) and thirteen red and white poles. From the perspective of the eagle, it holds thirteen arrows in its left claw and an olive branch in its right claw; the presence of both of these elements means that the United States has a strong desire for peace (the olive branch), but will always be ready for war (the arrows). The number 13 is not accidental, as it refers to the thirteen colonies that in 1776 proclaimed the Declaration of Independence of the United States of America.
The eagle has its head turned towards the olive branch, symbolizing the propensity for peace, and in its beak it holds a ribbon, on which the national motto in Latin E pluribus unum ("from many, one") is written, " which indicates the unification process in progress (note that the letters that make up the motto are also thirteen) ". Above his head appears a glory with thirteen white stars on a blue field, arranged in such a way as to form a six-rayed star.
